How to Get a Band 9 in IELTS Reading

Home » IELTS Blog » How to Get a Band 9 in IELTS Reading

If you’re preparing for the IELTS Reading test, you may wonder how to improve your score and finish the test on time. We have helped hundreds of students get a Band 9 in IELTS Reading. This blog post will show you how they did it.

Strategy #1: Read or Listen to English Every Day

One of the most important things you can do to improve your reading skills is to read or listen to English daily. The key is to make this a habit.

Read something you love, and you’ll likely stick with this habit for a long time. If you enjoy reading books about business and leadership or spy novels, read these. Even though they are not ‘academic’, they will still help you improve your reading skills and overall level of English.

    Strategy #2: Improve Your Vocabulary

Another key factor in achieving a high score on the IELTS Reading test is having a wide vocabulary. The wider your vocabulary, the easier it will be for you to understand the text and answer the questions.

To improve your vocabulary, you can read or listen to English every day and follow a vocabulary improvement plan. You can access our free Vocabulary improvement plan here.

Strategy #3: Develop Your Reading Skills

Developing your reading skills, including skimming, scanning, and close reading is important. Skimming will help you understand the general meaning of the text. Scanning will help you find the location of the correct answer. Close reading will help you choose the correct answer.

We show you how to develop these reading skills in much more detail on our IELTS Reading Course. Join our free Reading course today!
